From Search to Answers.
Same Concept. New Shelf.
The discovery journey used to start with a search bar. Now it starts with a question to an AI.

Before AI recommends your brand, it has to know it exists.
Four frameworks every growth leader needs right now.
01 A Fragmented World
Buyers move between traditional search engines and AI systems in a single decision journey.
You need to understand where each channel plays a role.
02 AI Systems vs. Search Engines
LLMs behave fundamentally differently than Google.
Your content strategy needs to cater both.
03 Visibility
Beyond getting cited, you need to get mentioned, and often.
Four visibility dimensions: consistency, frequency, position & breadth.
04 Influenceable Media
3rd party publishers and platforms where AI pulls its answers are accessible.
Identify them and building a partners strategy will be key to win visibility.

Because rankings are no longer the full picture. Google now fills the top of the search results page with AI Overviews, ads, and video before a single organic link appears. Even a top-three ranking may sit below the fold on most screens. Meanwhile, buyers are skipping the results page entirely and asking AI directly. Visibility is shrinking at the surface level even when your position looks stable.

Both. Buyers are not replacing one with the other, they are using them at different points in the same decision journey. A buyer might ask ChatGPT for a recommendation and then search Google to validate it. Your strategy needs to account for both channels, because abandoning either one means dropping out of part of that journey entirely.

LLMs do not pull from an index the way Google does. They discover and evaluate sources in real time, and they heavily favor third party publishers they already consider authoritative in your category. Getting featured on those publishers, through affiliate placements, editorial mentions, or sponsored content, is one of the most direct ways to influence what AI says about your brand.

LLMs pull from sources they have determined to be authoritative in a given category. They weigh third-party citations heavily, sometimes, more than your owned websites. Mention frequency, the authority of the citing source, and how consistently your brand appears across multiple sources all influence whether an LLM recommends you or a competitor. Brand mentions on high-authority publishers are some of the strongest signals you can build.

Most likely because they are featured on the third-party publishers AI trusts in your category and you are not. Those publishers, the ones AI actually cites, are often reachable through affiliate partnerships, editorial outreach, or content placements. The gap between where you are and where AI-cited publishers are is your roadmap.

It fills the gap on its own. LLMs are not built to say they do not know something. When they lack the specifics needed to answer a prompt, they generate a response anyway, which means your brand may be described inaccurately to buyers before they ever visit your site. Controlling your story on the sources AI trusts is the only reliable way to address this.

SEO and AEO share some fundamentals: strong content, technical health, and credibility signals. But AEO requires additional layers: natural language optimization, entity clarity, and especially third-party authority through influenceable media. Teams that treat AEO as an SEO add-on often miss the most important lever, which is getting featured on the sources AI already cites.
