According to the Performance Marketing Association’s latest webinar How AI is Shaping the Affiliate Industry, 93% of respondents are already using ChatGPT or similar AI tools. AI isn’t the future, it’s the now. The real question isn’t if you’re using it, but how you’re putting it to work.

And the “how” truly matters. Marketers are leveraging AI across a wide range of functions, from accelerating reporting and analysis to streamlining partner recruitment and compliance. AI empowers teams to move faster and make smarter, data-driven decisions. Yet, it also introduces new challenges around content accuracy, originality, and attribution.

AI Has Gone from Experiment to Infrastructure

The report paints a clear picture: AI is no longer in the testing phase. It’s built into how affiliate marketing operates day to day. Teams are automating manual tasks, identifying new opportunities, and refining performance strategies with a fraction of the effort. The value is real, but so are the risks. When everyone has access to the same tools, differentiation comes from judgment, creativity, and ethical use.

Efficiency is Good. Strategy is Better.

Many PMA participants observed that AI enables them to “do more with less.” Yet without a guiding strategy, automation can easily create noise. Effective performance marketing still depends on human judgment to turn data into action.

AI Is Redefining Visibility and Value

PMA notes that content citations may become the next major visibility metric. As LLMs surface content in AI-generated answers, brands and publishers will need to think about AEO (AI Engine Optimization) much as they once did about SEO.

Affiliate links are stepping into a new spotlight, too. As AI begins crediting and citing original sources, those links could serve as key signals of credibility and authenticity. That shift could redefine partnerships, value attribution, and how brands reward the affiliates who help create it.

This is precisely the kind of shift we can track with LQ Vision (check it out here).

LQ Digital on What’s Next

At LQ Digital, we see AI as a catalyst, not a replacement. It’s an amplifier for human intelligence, helping our teams find insights faster, streamline workflows, and make sharper decisions. But the foundation remains the same: relationships, creativity, and strategic thinking.

The future of affiliate marketing will belong to those who can blend the speed of AI with the nuance that only humans bring. Want to see how we’re using AI to build smarter strategies? Let’s talk - we’d love to show you.
